About me

 

I would like to help you learn more about the Reggio Emilia Approach to Education. Some activities you can do with your child at home or if you are a teacher, in your classroom. 

Fun Facts about me:

  1. I was born in South Africa and still live in Johannesburg. 
  2. I love South Africa and it’s uniqueness and particular slang and inside jokes. 
  3. I have been vegetarian for 4 years but craved meat when I fell pregnant. 
  4. I am a single mom blessed with a beautiful 4 year old daughter.
  5. I am obsessed with children’s books and can never go into a bookshop without buying one. I love reading stories to my daughter and she loves books too. She can often be found browsing through them and ‘reading’ to her teddy bears which makes me so happy.
  6. My nicknames given to me by children I have taught include, Miss Cakie, Miss Kate and Miss Clay. I love a good nickname and will not hesitate to give you one once we have been friends for a while.  
  7. I have a bachelors degree in Education- specializing in foundation phase and early childhood development.
  8. I have been to the international Reggio conference in Reggio Emilia, Italy. It was one of the best experiences ever and would go back every year if I could.
  9. I love to travel and have been very fortunate to travel to many places all over the world with my family.
  10. On my travel bucket list is- the Makadikadi salt pans to sleep under the stars, Japan, and the ice hotel to see the northern lights and one of those fancy huts in Bali in the middle of the ocean. 
  11. In 2010 I worked at a summer camp for 3 months in Minnesota, USA.
  12. I have two much older sisters (one in Cape Town and one in London), two nieces and a nephew. 
  13. My all-time favorite TV show is Friends and I quote it often. I also love Seinfeld, I think it is hilarious. One of my best shows that always cheer me up is Miranda and Brooklyn 99.
  14. People tell me I am most like Phoebe from friends.
  15. I love doing puzzles.
  16. I love laughing. Make me laugh and we can be best friends.
  17. My favourite colour is turquoise and all pastel colours.
  18. My favourite foods include pizza, ice-cream, bananas, nut butters and all fruit.
  19. And no I didn’t misspell the word favourite, it is the South African spelling.
  20. On a rainy day, all I want to do is cuddle up and watch movies.
  21. In 2020 I had a brain tumor removed twice in two months, as if 2020 wasn’t bad enough already.
  22. I don’t like wearing shoes and would rather be barefoot.
  23. I have friends from primary school that are still my friends today and I am very grateful for them.
  24. I love cats- total cat lady here.
  25. My favorite kind of exercise is yoga.

  27. My family is my world and I’ll do anything for them.
  28. I see the kids I teach as my children, and I love hanging out with them everyday.
